What is Kari's Law?
On December 1, 2013, Kari Rene Hunt was murdered by her estranged husband whom she was intending to divorce. She met him at a local motel to leave their children with him for a short visitation. Kari's husband attacked her in the bathroom behind a locked door but when one of the children tried to call 9-1-1, it would not work because of the need to dial 9 first and then 9-1-1.
The Law was created to help eliminate the chance of someone trying to call 9-1-1 in an emergency and not realizing they need to dial an access code or select a line.
